Temple theft in Cheras: Man with 13 past offences arrested


PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with a theft at a temple in Taman Maluri, Cheras, involving estimated losses of about RM30,000.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rosdi Daud said police received a report on the incident at about 6.55pm on Saturday (March 14).

“Following the tip-off, a team from the Cheras district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department conducted an operation and arrested a 32-year-old local man in the Taman Maluri area,” he said.

“Police also seized several tools believed to have been used by the suspect during the commission of the crime,” he said in a statement on Sunday (March 15).

ACP Mohd Rosdi said checks revealed that the suspect has 13 prior offences involving criminal and narcotics offences.

“A preliminary urine screening test conducted on the suspect also found him positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he added.

He said the suspect has been remanded for seven days, from March 15 to March 21, to assist with the investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft,” he said, adding that investigations are ongoing.
