JB school head nabbed for allegedly beating boy

JOHOR BARU: A school headmaster has been arrested for allegedly beating and injuring a seven-year-old boy.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said police received a report from the child's father on Tuesday (March 10) morning.

"Initial investigations suggest that the incident happened at 7.39am on Tuesday at the school canteen," he said in a statement on Saturday (March 14).

He said the suspect, the headmaster of a school in Johor Baru, was later arrested at 4.55pm the same day.

"He was remanded for three days until Friday (March 13) before being released on police bail.

"Further checks found he had no criminal record and also tested negative for drugs," he said.

ACP Radin Ramlan said investigations are ongoing under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which involves a person responsible for the care of a child abusing, neglecting, abandoning or exposing the child to danger, or acting negligently in a manner that may cause physical or emotional injury to the child.

If convicted, the suspect may be fined up to RM50,000, imprisoned for up to 20 years, or both.

A post went viral on social media showing the victim with injuries to his face.
