Gang robbery involving police: Investigation papers submitted to Bukit Aman for review

SHAH ALAM: Investigation papers into a gang involving police officers accused of robbing a businessman of more than RM300,000 and gold bars have been submitted to the legal adviser’s office at Bukit Aman for review.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the papers were referred for further legal scrutiny and advice on the next course of action, as the suspects include police personnel.

He said investigations into the case have been completed following the arrest of all individuals believed to be involved.

“All suspects have been detained with the final two arrested on Tuesday (March 10) and currently in remand,” he said during a press conference at the Selangor police contingent headquarters here on Wednesday (March 11).

Comm Shazeli said the suspects knew each other and had allegedly conspired to carry out the robbery.

He said a civilian was believed to be the mastermind behind the crime.

Earlier, Comm Shazeli said the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) together with the Gombak district police headquarters CID, arrested six local men beginning March 2.

Of the six suspects, three are civil servants comprising two senior police officers and a policeman, while the other three are civilians, one of whom has 20 prior criminal records.

Earlier reports said several men who introduced themselves as police officers conducting an inspection allegedly robbed the victim, a 50-year-old cosmetics trader, at his residence.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant.
