Sabah receives RM22.75mil EFT grant

KOTA KINABALU: A RM22.748mil grant has been channelled to support the Sabah government’s environmental conservation efforts.

The grant, which was provided by the Federal Government under its Ecological Fiscal Transfer (EFT) initiative, was presented by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at Menara Kinabalu yesterday.

The latest allocation brings the total EFT funding received by Sabah since 2019 to RM126.36mil.

“This clearly shows the Federal Government’s acknowledgement of the state government’s sound environmental conservation policies.

“The state government welcomes the continued support from the Federal Government,” said Hajiji.

Hajiji and Kurup also discussed amendments to the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and the harmonisation of the National Climate Change Bill with Sabah’s legislation to ensure the state can optimise the benefits of the carbon economy.
