Thai national killed, three injured in express bus-4WD crash near Pekan

KUANTAN: A Thai national was killed and three others were injured in a collision between a four-wheel-drive vehicle and an express bus at KM14 of the Pekan-Kuantan road here early Sunday (March 8) morning.

Pekan OCPD Supt Zaidi Mat Zin said the accident involved a 4WD and an express bus carrying 24 passengers and a relief driver at a traffic light intersection at 1.15am.

"Preliminary investigations found that the 4WD driver, a 29-year-old man, heading from Pulau Serai towards Kuantan, had stopped at a traffic light when it was rear-ended by a bus travelling in the same direction," he said in a statement Sunday.

He said the impact killed the rear passenger of the 4WD, identified as 24-year-old Hosneeamree, a labourer, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The driver, Muhammad Shafwan Abdullah Aziz, 29, and front passenger, Mohamad Asri Mohamad Yusoff, 36, sustained injuries to the abdomen and head. They were rushed to Pekan Hospital for further treatment," he said, adding that a bus passenger also sustained minor injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - Bernama
