Sarawak leads regional rankings in National Unity Index, says Minister

SIBU: Sarawak has recorded the highest level of unity in the country among regional categories with a score of 0.791, according to the latest National Unity Index (IPNas).

Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang said the 2025 IPNas report showed Sarawak leading the regional rankings, though it placed third when compared strictly by state, with Pahang taking the top spot.

"We are proud of Sarawak’s achievement. Its top score reflects the close daily interactions among the state’s multi-ethnic communities who live in an atmosphere of mutual respect, supported by inclusive governance," he told reporters during a visit to a Ramadan bazaar on Saturday (March 7).

The IPNas is the Federal Government's official tool for measuring national harmony, developed by the Unity Ministry in collaboration with the Institute of Ethnic Studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Aaron noted that the national index has shown a consistent upward trend, rising from 0.567 in 2018 to 0.629 in 2022, and reaching 0.701 in 2025.

While the progress is encouraging, the Minister stressed that continuous efforts are required to ensure unity remains resilient against current challenges.

Earlier, the Minister attended the "Gerak Rahmah: Let’s Make Porridge – Sarawak Unification 2026" programme, highlighting that strong national values and inter-ethnic understanding remain the foundations of stability in the state.
