Actress and husband also being investigated over Datukship scam

SEREMBAN: A television actress and her husband under investigation for a RM1.5mil land scam in Selangor are also being probed for cheating a retiree of more than RM23,000.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Azahar Abdul Rahim said the couple allegedly promised the victim a Datukship from a state in exchange for the money.

Police began investigating the alleged scam following a report lodged by the retiree on Dec 12.

"The 41-year-old male suspect told the victim that he could secure him a Datukship from a state in exchange for a sum of money.

"The victim believed the man and transferred the cash in six transactions from January to November last year," he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a jail term of between one and 10 years, caning and a fine upon conviction.

The suspects were detained last Thursday (March 5) to assist in investigations into a RM1.5mil fraud case related to the sale of a nonexistent plot of land in Selangor.

The couple, aged 41 and 35, were detained in Kg Sungai Serai in Hulu Langat.
