KUALA LUMPUR: Immediate action must be taken against any party attempting to topple the government to ensure political stability is not affected, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said efforts to undermine political stability through the use of the media or external influence should not be allowed to continue.

“Political stability should not be undermined by individuals who believe the media and outside parties can be used to damage stability in our country,” he said, Bernama reported.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, told reporters this after attending a meeting with the top management of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) here yesterday.

He said the matter is currently being investigated by the police and all parties should give the relevant enforcement agencies time to conduct a thorough probe.

“So we leave it to the authorities to conduct the investigation as mentioned by the Inspector-General of Police and in the statement issued by the Prime Minister earlier,” he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently revealed that there was an attempt to overthrow the government allegedly supported by locals using the influence of the media and international institutions, including prominent Zionist groups.

Anwar said initial investigations by the police also found that the movement was based abroad and had substantial funds to plan strategies to undermine the existing government.
