PM urges Malaysians to stay united

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians should draw lessons from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the prolonged suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza by strengthening unity and solidarity at home, says the Prime Minister.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said amid increasingly uncertain global geopolitics, Malaysia must remain united regardless political affiliation and racial or religious differences to safeguard national interests and uphold the rule of law.

“This is not merely about siding with any major power, but about defending principles, justice and sovereignty.

“In such difficult times, a small country like Malaysia must stand firm through the strength of its people’s unity,” he said when addressing Felda staff and community at Menara Felda.

On Feb 28, Israel and the United States launched airstrikes on several targets throughout Iran.

Teheran later responded by targeting US military bases and logistics facilities in several Arab countries, prompting widespread airspace restrictions across the region.

On Felda, the Prime Minister said the body must no longer be treated as a separate entity, but instead be fully integrated into the nation’s development agenda.

“At the Cabinet meeting, I have instructed that all departments and ministries must not leave Felda as an isolated area when introducing any new project or initiative.

“Government facilities, whether in education or social services, must also reach Felda communities,” he added, Bernama reported.

Anwar acknowledged that Felda had endured a difficult period in the past but said those challenges should serve as lessons for future recovery.

“We had to delist FGV Holdings Bhd from Bursa Malaysia due to legacy issues. It was a tough decision arising from serious problems, but the move has now become a key driver in restoring Felda’s position.

“With determination, teamwork and continued government support, Felda can remain a successful land development model and an enduring national legacy,” he said.

He commended Felda’s management for incorporating digital transformation into its operations and at the same time, focusing on innovation, value-chain development and sustainability.

The Prime Minister also proposed that Felda’s 70th anniversary celebration be held on a large scale in Felda areas to strengthen the spirit of the settler community.
