A YOUNG girl in Foshan, China sparked panic among family members after throwing away a bag containing 100,000 yuan (RM57,143) worth of jewellery, having presumed that it was rubbish, Oriental Daily reported.

The incident happened on the morning of Feb 27, when the girl saw a bag left on the family’s coffee table at home.

Assuming it was trash, she disposed of it at the residential estate’s rubbish bin.

It was not until 8pm that night when a family member was looking to sort her jewellery that she realised the bag had gone missing.

It was understood that the bag contained, among others, a gold necklace weighing 80g.

Family members rushed to search in the communal bin, only to find that a rubbish truck had collected the garbage and taken it to a disposal processing plant.

It is unknown if the family will be able to recover the jewellery.
