PETALING JAYA: DAP has again called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate allegations of a “corporate mafia” and possible misuse of the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC), following claims reported by a foreign media outlet.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke (pic) said the call was made following the party's central executive committee (CEC) on Wednesday (March 4).
He said the party viewed the allegations seriously and urged the government to address the matter effectively.
“The government must handle this issue effectively to safeguard the credibility of the MACC through the establishment of a RCI to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
"The RCI should also recommend measures to prevent any abuse of power within the anti-graft agency," he said in a statement.
Separately, Loke said the CEC expressed disappointment over the Dewan Rakyat’s failure to pass a constitutional amendment bill to limit the prime minister’s tenure to 10 years.
He called on the government to re-table the bill in the next parliamentary sitting to realise the important reform agenda.
On another matter, Loke said the party supported the government’s decision to refer the bill on the separation of the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor to a parliamentary select committee.
He said DAP representatives in the committee, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh and Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan, would work to improve aspects of accountability and transparency in the appointment process for the posts.
