Cops tracking suspect over alleged lewd act in mosque

SEGAMAT: Police are looking for a man believed to be a foreigner for allegedly performing a lewd act in a mosque in Bukit Siput near here.

Segamat OCPD Supt Mohd Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail said police received a report from a 40-year-old local woman at 6.29pm on Wednesday (March 4).

He said the woman was performing solat dhuha (voluntary prayer) at about 11am that day when the unidentified suspect, who was reportedly half-naked, approached her.

“The suspect then began masturbating while looking at the victim,” said Supt Mohd Jumazanzahir, adding that the woman immediately left the mosque as she feared for her safety.

He said initial investigations based on CCTV footage described the suspect as fair-skinned, of slight build and believed to be in his 30s.

Supt Mohd Jumazanzahir said the case is being investigated under Section 377D of the Penal Code.

Those with information on the suspect’s whereabouts are urged to contact the Segamat district police headquarters at 07-9324222 or the nearest police station.
