Two women nabbed in Mukah for alleged involvement in online gambling, public lottery


MUKAH: Two local women were arrested for their alleged involvement in online gambling and unlicensed public lottery activities.

Mukah OCPD Deputy Supt Muhamad Rizal Alias said the Criminal Investigation Division conducted “Op Dadu” on March 3, targeting illegal gambling operations in Selangau, where two separate raids were carried out.

"The first raid took place at around 2.50pm at a general business premises near a petrol station, where a 34-year-old woman suspected of running online gambling activities was detained.

Officers seized a smartphone containing a website believed to be used for online gambling, along with RM105 in cash," he said on Wednesday (March 4).

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of RM5,000 to RM50,000 and a jail term of up to three years upon conviction.

The second raid was conducted at about 3.40pm the same day at a business premise in Pasar Baru Selangau, resulting in the arrest of another 34-year-old woman for conducting unlicensed public lottery activities.

Police seized a smartphone containing a lottery application, a printer, papers, and RM92 in cash.

The case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides for a fine of RM10,000 to RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years if convicted.
