Hostel supervisor remanded over RM78,000 bribe for school maintenance job in Seremban

SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a remand order against a school hostel supervisor for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of about RM78,000 from the owner of a company carrying out maintenance work.

The suspect, believed to be in his 30s, allegedly accepted the bribe in exchange for recommending the company for maintenance work at his workplace and for securing a share in the project.

The five-day remand order was issued by Magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah following an application by the MACC.

According to a source, the suspect was detained on Tuesday evening (March 3) when he appeared at the state MACC office to have his statement recorded.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect committed the alleged offence in 2022.

“The total cost of the project was around RM114,000,” the source said on Wednesday (March 4).

When contacted, state MACC director Awgkok (correct) Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail confirmed the arrest, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
