GOF central brigade busts two smuggling syndicates, seizes more than RM450,000 worth of illegal fireworks


PETALING JAYA: A series of raids by the Central Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) have crippled several crime contraband smuggling syndicates, including one that has been smuggling illegal fireworks.

Central Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Hakemal Hawari, in a statement Wednesday (March 4), said that multiple operations were conducted on March 2 and 3 including one that led to the busting of the smuggling group in Klang on March 3.

“Two Malaysian men were arrested, and various types of unlicensed fireworks, a lorry, and several mobile phones used in the smuggling activities were seized.

“In a separate raid on at 10pm, one more Malaysian man was arrested and various types of unlicensed fireworks were seized, with the total estimated value of the seizure amounting to RM458,000,” he said.

Another raid on the same day saw the dismantling of a migrant smuggling syndicate operating within the Sungai Buloh area.

“The raid resulted in the arrest of 20 Indonesian migrants including four men who acted as transport coordinators.

“Two cars and several mobile phones were also seized. The total estimated value of the seizure is RM224,000,” he said.

In an unrelated matter, the Central Brigade has conducted 89 raids between Jan 1 and March 4.

“As a result 287 individuals were successfully arrested, with various types of seizures totaling RM13mill.

“The police, in particular the GOF, will continue to carry out their duties and responsibilities in safeguarding national security and maintaining public order for the well-being and prosperity of the Malaysian people,” he said.
