GEORGE TOWN: Datuk Mohamad Abdul Hamid is at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah to have his statement recorded for a second day.
The Penang Deputy Chief Minister I, who is also state PKR chairman, had arrived at the building at 9.10am on Tuesday (March 3).
Mohamad Abul, who is Batu Maung assemblyman and Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP), president had spent seven hours at the Penang MACC headquarters on Monday (March 2) having his statement recorded in connection with alleged abuse of power involving the use of zakat funds to purchase land.
He had left the premises at 4.10pm Monday before returning on Tuesday morning to continue recording his statement.
MACC has so far recorded statements from 63 people in connection with the allegations.
Sources said they were summoned in stages after the investigation paper was opened in January.
MACC is also scrutinising several bank accounts suspected to be linked to the alleged offences.
Among those summoned were Penang State Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) officers and staff members, the state mufti, State Secretary, state financial officer and state legal adviser.
Members of the state Zakat Board, including its officers and employees, were also called to assist in the probe.
Members of the media have been waiting outside the Penang MACC headquarters since 9am, awaiting Mohamad Abdul's departure after a second day of having his statement recorded.
