PEKAN: A majority of the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) trainees reported positive personal changes after completing the programme, says chairman of PLKN Council Tan Sri Dr Abdul Aziz Zainal.
Based on trainee feedback, he said 85% of the trainees said they had become more mature and appreciated the importance of cooperation among Malaysia’s diverse communities.
“They had the opportunity to interact with peers from different backgrounds; eat, sleep, train and face challenges together.
“These experiences fostered mutual understanding and deeper respect,” he told reporters after the passing-out parade for PLKN 3.0 Series 1/2026 at the Territorial Army Camp 505 here yesterday.
A total of 556 male trainees completed the 45-day training programme, which began on Jan 17, reported Bernama.
Abdul Aziz noted that trainees previously lacking motivation showed improved discipline, confidence and environmental awareness during the course.
“The positive impact demonstrates that the training modules contribute to character development and national unity among youth of different ethnicities.”
Meanwhile, Abdul Aziz said that those selected for the programme must respond promptly to calls and instructions.
“Initially, some parents were hesitant to send their children. But after witnessing improvements such as increased respect for parents, greater responsibility and discipline, they acknowledged the programme’s effectiveness,” he said.
On health matters, Abdul Aziz reminded trainees to declare their true medical status before joining to prevent any complications.
