Hunter dies after fall in forest

KOTA KINABALU: A man died after he reportedly fell from a tree while hunting in Kota Belud.

Kota Belud Fire and Rescue chief Elge Bakuk said they received a distress call from the man’s friend at around 7.45pm on Saturday, and a team of five was dispatched to the scene.

“The location was about 39km away, and our personnel had to walk another 3km to reach the scene as the area was not accessible by cars,” he said in a statement.

He said the firemen were accompanied by Health Ministry officials as well as rangers.

“Upon arrival, medical officials conducted checks on the 44-year-old man before pronouncing him dead,” said Elge, adding that the victim’s body was moved out of the forest on a junkin stretcher.

The body was handed over to waiting police once the rescuers reached the main road, he said, adding that operations on site ended at 10.56am.
