PM: Reach out to vulnerable communities this Ramadan

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on community leaders and government agencies to make the most of Ramadan and use the remaining weeks to reach out to those still left behind by development.

He said that although the government has introduced initiatives such as Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) and salary adjustments, there is a small segment of society that has yet to fully benefit from the assistance.

“We rarely speak about them, and at every level we are preoccupied with our own affairs. I want to take this opportunity to urge mosque and surau committees, school headmasters, village heads and youth leaders to step up our charitable efforts.

“Let this Ramadan be an opportunity to uplift all segments of society by easing their burdens,” he said after joining 2,000 congregants in performing Friday prayers at Masjid Jamek Pekan Kajang here yesterday, Bernama reported.

Anwar also called for close cooperation between the civil service, the private sector and the public to ensure relief reaches those in need during Ramadan.

“I hope this Ramadan and Aidilfitri will truly bring comfort to people at every level,” he said.
