Teen nabbed for illegal possession of fireworks


KLUANG: A teenager has been arrested for possessing fireworks without a valid licence.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Noh said reports were lodged at the Kluang police headquarters at 10.30pm on Wednesday (Feb 25).

"We immediately deployed our men on the same day and arrested the 17-year-old male suspect at Taman Tasik Indah near here at 11pm," he said in a statement.

The seized fireworks were valued at an estimated RM20,616.

ACP Bahrin said initial investigation found the suspect did not have a previous criminal record.

"The teenager, a local also tested negative for drugs and has been remanded for two days from Feb 26," he added.

ACP Bahrin said the case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957, where upon conviction offenders face up to seven years imprisonment, a fine of RM10,000 or both.
