Stolen wood and two boats seized

KOTA KINABALU: Maritime officials seized stolen wood and two boats but lost two suspects who ditched their stolen items and boats during a sea operation in Lahad Datu.

Lahad Datu Maritime zone director Commander Dzulfikhar Ali said that during the 10pm raid on Wednesday their team noticed two suspicious boats and approached them for inspection.

“Our officials noticed the two boats, one pink and the other green, during the Ops Pluto Timur and Ops Tiris 3.0 patrols,” he said in a statement.

“They sped off as soon as they noticed our presence, and abandoned the boats when they neared a mangrove area before fleeing into the darkness,” he said.

Dzulfikhar said inspections on the boats led to the discovery of 20 pieces of cut wood believed to have been stolen and ferried without a permit.
