KUALA LUMPUR: There has been a 22.27% increase in voters since 2022, with an additional 1,381,955 voters added to the electoral roll, the Dewan Rakyat was told Wednesday (Feb 25).
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said in a written parliamentary reply dated Feb 25 that there were 6,204,845 voters in 2022. Subsequently, 476,721 voters were added in 2023, 464,553 in 2024 and 440,681 in 2025.
The figures were based on statistics from the Election Commission's (EC) Automatic Voter Registration by state for the years 2022 up to the Supplementary Electoral Roll for November 2025.
She was responding to a question from Tan Hong Pin (PH–Bakri) regarding the statistics on automatic voter registration by state for the years 2022–2025, the EC’s plans to strengthen voter data accuracy, and the expansion of postal votes.
In response to a separate question on redelineation, Azalina said the eight-year period for the review of the delimitation of constituencies in Sarawak expired on Aug 21, 2023.
“The EC is currently preparing recommendations for the review of the delimitation of constituencies for the state before proceeding with the subsequent processes stipulated under the Federal Constitution,” she said.
The review will take into account the addition of 17 state legislative assembly seats, as approved by the Sarawak state legislative assembly on July 7, 2025, which came into force on Aug 8, 2025.
She was responding to Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN–Kota Bharu), who had asked about the latest status of the implementation of the review for Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, and when the process is expected to be fully completed.
