PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department will lodge a police report over an incident in which one of its officers was rammed and injured while conducting an operation at a nightclub in Bukit Bintang early Thursday (Feb 26) morning.

Director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the incident occurred at about 3am while officers were carrying out inspections to detect foreigners who had violated immigration regulations.

He said the situation turned chaotic when intoxicated patrons attempted to flee, causing one officer to be knocked down.

“The officer sustained a fracture to his left leg and is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur. He is in stable condition,” he said.

However, Zakaria said the department would continue enforcement operations at entertainment outlets to curb violations of immigration laws.

He was speaking to reporters after attending the Immigration Department’s Semarak Ramadan programme at its headquarters here, where bubur lambuk was distributed to staff and clients as part of its outreach initiative in conjunction with the fasting month.

He said the programme was among the department’s welfare initiatives carried out throughout the year to strengthen ties with the public and foster teamwork among its personnel.

According to him, eight pots of bubur lambuk were prepared, and distribution would continue as long as supplies remained available to reach more recipients.
