Claims of more Bersatu divisions to be dissolved

PETALING JAYA: More Bersatu divisions are expected to be dissolved in the coming days, in retaliation to the party’s decision to expel its deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

Two divisions – Larut and Lembah Pantai – are the first two to be disbanded.

Sources claim a substantial number of divisions in Johor, Sabah, Selangor, Pahang and Perak are expected to follow suit soon.

“Keep a close eye on what is happening in Bersatu. More divisions will be dissolved, signalling a protest against the party leadership,” claimed a source.

Larut division was the first to disband, just hours after Hamzah attended the “Reset” programme on Saturday in a show of solidarity with the Larut MP.

In a video posted on its official Facebook page, the division leadership said the move was taken due to a loss of confidence in party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Its deputy chief Mohd Noh Md Daud said the decision was made following a full mandate from leaders at various levels within the division.

“A total of 48 branches under the Larut division have declared the dissolution of the division after losing confidence in the party leadership under Muhyiddin.

“This decision was further reinforced by the dismissal of deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and division chief Mohd Hassundi Hamzah,” he said.

Next to go was the party’s Lembah Pantai division, with its division chief Datuk Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtaruddin saying that the decision was reached by the division’s leadership.

“During the meeting, I gave all parties the freedom to voice their views.

“The majority of the division’s leadership attended the ‘Reset’ programme organised by Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee in solidarity with, and in support of Hamzah.

“The event demonstrated the backing from the party’s leadership and grassroots nationwide.

“I made the decision based on reason and the responsibility of the struggle,” he said.

On Friday, the Bersatu disciplinary board issued dismissal notices to 17 members, including Hamzah, who is also Opposition Leader.
