AKPS seizes RM1mil worth of smuggled food products in Port Klang


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection (AKPS) seized three consignments of smuggled foodstuffs and other products, worth around RM1mil.

Port Klang Entry Control Commander Deputy Comm Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said that discoveries were made on Feb 13 at the CFS 4 Container Inspection Centre, in West Port, Port Klang.

"In the first operation conducted at 10am., the AKPS seized one container containing imported frozen pork from Belgium. The seizure's value is estimated at RM486,658.17 with an approximate weight of 27,000kg.

"The second operation, carried out on the same day at 11.30am involved one container containing cat litter from China. The estimated value of the seizure is RM46,414.38 with an approximate weight of 28,001.6kg.

"Lastly the third operation was conducted at 12.30pm involving one container of namely pangasius fillets (fish fillets), imported from Vietnam. The estimated value of the seizure is RM490,726.29 with an approximate weight of 24,920kg," he said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 14).

All containers are currently being investigated under the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011, including for submitting misleading documents and for lacking valid permits.

"The total estimated value of the seizures for the three cases amounts to RM1,031,798.84 with a combined weight of 79,921.6kg.

"We reaffirmed our continued commitment to combating the entry of prohibited and non-compliant goods in order to safeguard national security, public well-being, and sovereignty," he said.
