KUCHING: Sarawak's state-level Chinese New Year open house on Tuesday (Feb 17) will reflect the state's spirit of inclusivity and harmony, says the Deputy Premier.
Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the annual celebration was an important platform to foster unity, mutual respect and understanding among the diverse communities.
"This is the third year we are doing the state-level open house. In line with our vision of always being inclusive, the Sarawak government holds open house celebrations for Hari Raya, Gawai and Chinese New Year.
"We had about 5,000 people last year coming to support our Chinese New Year open house," he told a press conference here on Wednesday (Feb 11).
Dr Sim said Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar will grace the open house at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, together with guests representing the state's various communities.
He said their presence symbolises the unity of leadership and collective commitment towards preserving peace and harmony in a multicultural society.
"The organisation of this state-level celebration underscores the Sarawak government's continued commitment to strengthening social cohesion, enhancing inter-ethnic harmony and ensuring sustained stability.
"These elements remain critical pillars in driving Sarawak's development agenda and long-term prosperity," he added.
Dr Sim welcomed everyone to attend the open house from 10am to 2pm as an opportunity to interact and strengthen ties across communities.
He said the celebration embodied Sarawak's values of sharing, togetherness and mutual appreciation, which should not be taken for granted.
"The government will continue to uphold and promote such inclusive celebrations as part of our broader efforts to build a progressive, united and resilient Sarawak," he said.
