Sabah launches landmark floating solar project at Babagon Dam

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah launches two solar projects, including the country’s first floating solar farm on potable water at the Babagon Dam in Penampang near here.

“The installation of floating solar panels on a water catchment that also serves as a source of water supply for the local community,” said Masidi, who is also the state Finance Minister, after launching the project on Wednesday (Feb 11).

The two projects undertaken by state-owned water producer Jetama Sdn Bhd will cost RM63mil, while the Batu Sapi solar project is estimated at RM53mil. Both projects are supported by 25-year Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Sabah Electricity.

Masidi said the project is a collaboration between Jetama, the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS), Sabah Electricity, and Sabah Development Bank.
