Johor temple devotees help out Tamil school pupils


DEVOTEES of a popular temple in Johor showed their community spirit by providing school supplies and bags to Tamil school students in the area, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The Chaah Devi Sri Kaligai Peedam temple committee gifted school supplies to 10 preschoolers and nine Standard One students from SJK(T) Ladang Yong Peng.

The temple committee chairman, identified as Vengumani, said the effort is meant to encou­rage the students, especially those from lower income families in their education.

The students must feel happy going to school with new bags and supplies, and this will make an impression on how important education is, he said.

Residents in Thoothukdi were shocked to find a lifeless body near a bridge and informed the police.

Authorities identified the victim as Karthik, 28, a building technician and that he had been bea­ten to death.

During the investigation, suspicion fell on fishmongers Velmurugan, 35, Ashok Kumar, 28, and Muniasamy, 35, who were said to have prior dispute with the victim.

The three men eventually confessed to killing the victim during questioning.
