Emotional scene in court after Isa Samad’s six-year jail term reinstated

PUTRAJAYA: Tears flowed freely at the public gallery of the Federal Court as former mentri besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad's conviction and sentence in an RM3.09mil graft case was reinstated.

His family, including his wife Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid, were seen hugging and supporting each other after the decision was passed down here on Tuesday (Feb 10).

Bibi Sharliza was seen crying as other family members tried to comfort her.

It is understood that Mohd Isa would be sent to the Sungai Buloh prison immediately as the committal order is issued today.

When met later by the press for her comments, Bibi smiled and declined.

"Saya tak ada apa-apa nak comment (I have nothing to say)," she said.

Earlier, a three-judge panel chaired by Federal Court judge Justice Nordin Hassan allowed the appeal by the prosecution to reinstate Mohd Isa's conviction and sentence by the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Feb 3, 2021.

The High Court had imposed a six-year imprisonment and a RM15.45mil fine on Mohd Isa after finding him guilty of nine corruption charges involving RM3.09mil linked to the acquisition of the Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites in Kuching, Sarawak.

Other judges on the panel were Justices Lee Swee Seng and Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali.
