BH Ahad reported that it had not rained in Langkawi for more than a month, and dry conditions are expected to continue until mid to late March.

Based on records, Meteorology Department director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the island had gone without rain for 38 days as of Feb 7 since Dec 31 last year.

He said the dry weather was in line with the current climate, which usually occurred in the northern part of the peninsula at the end of the north-east monsoon.

He said the longest period without rain in the northern states was 77 days, recorded from 1979 to 1980 and from 2004 to 2005.

Mohd Hisham also said that it was usual for the nation to experience hot spells between February and June, particularly in Perlis, Kedah and Penang.

Although dry, he added that no hot spots have been detected in Langkawi based on the Asean Specialised Meteorological Centre.

He advised residents in Langkawi to take precautions during the dry spell, such as ensuring an adequate water supply and avoiding open burning activities.

It was also reported that Baling, Kulim, Kuala Muda and Bandar Baru had recently experienced heatwaves, with temperatures reaching 35°C to 37°C for three consecutive days.

> Local actress Zarina Anjoulie said the concept of “in good times and hard times” was an idealistic narrative that rarely occurred in real life, especially for women.

The 38-year-old actress, whose real name is Zarina Anjoulie Lavocah Mohd Fahizul, said life’s experiences taught her to be independent from an early age and not to rely on men, especially during difficult times.

“Women, please remember. In truth, there is no such thing as ‘in good times and hard times’.

“My car got stolen, took a taxi for some postal matters with my three-year-old child.

“And yes, at that time I did not look pretty at all,” she said in her social media Threads reported Kosmo!.

The actress in Don Dukun said that no men came forward to lend a shoulder or empathise with her, despite the challenges she was going through at that time in her life.

The single mother advised women to first stabilise themselves before thinking about love or relationships. Her public outpouring drew varied reactions from netizens, with many supporting her views.
