Govt channels RM250,000 aid to 800 students in Ipoh ahead of CNY

PETALING JAYA: The Madani government has channelled RM250,000 in festive aid to 800 students in Ipoh Barat ahead of Chinese New Year, reaffirming its commitment to student welfare and social unity.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the Sumbangan Kasih Madani was to ease the financial burden on students and their families as they prepare for both Chinese New Year and the upcoming Ramadan.

“I hope this assistance will help students and their families obtain learning materials and basic necessities during this festive period,” he said at the handover ceremony in Ipoh on Sunday (Feb 8).

A total of RM300 was given to each of the 800 students, including those up to Form Six, from 18 secondary schools under the Ipoh Barat parliamentary constituency. The distribution took place at SJK (C) Bercham.

Nga was joined by Bercham assemblyman Ong Boon Piow, Buntong assemblyman Tulsi Manogaran, Canning assemblyman and Perak deputy speaker Jenny Choi, as well as representatives from strategic partner Berjaya Group Bhd, represented by its executive director Shashitharan Nair.

Among the schools involved were SMK Jalan Tasek, SMK Bercham, Kolej Tingkatan Enam Seri Ipoh, SMK Seri Puteri, SMK Buntong, SMK ACS, SMK Sungai Pari, SMK Raja Perempuan Taayah and SMK Sri Intan.

Nga said the Madani government has consistently ensured student welfare is prioritised ahead of major celebrations.

“Every year since the Madani government took office, we have made it a point to distribute Sumbangan Kasih Madani to students from all national schools ahead of Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Deepavali, to help ease the burden on their families,” he said.

He added that the government remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of the people and ensuring that no one is left behind.

“In a multiracial country like ours, unity must be upheld and harmony must be protected together,” he said.
