KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry here has seized more than 20,000 units of branded perfumes and skincare creams worth over RM1.4mil, suspected of using counterfeit trademarks.
Its Kuala Lumpur enforcement chief Mohd Shahran Mohd Arshad said the operation was carried out at two premises in the capital on Thursday (Feb 5), together with representatives of the trademark owners.
He said inspections found that both premises, operated by local owners and workers, were suspected of possessing and selling goods bearing counterfeit trademarks.
"Preliminary investigations also found that both premises had been operating for about two years and that supplies were obtained from overseas suppliers before being marketed in the local market.
"The premises were also suspected of selling the goods to customers around the Klang Valley, besides actively marketing and selling the items through online platforms to customers nationwide," he said in a statement here on Friday (Feb 6).
Two investigation papers have been opened under the Trademarks Act 2019, and seven local individuals were detained for further investigation. – Bernama
