Arrest warrants issued after two Immigration officers fail to show up in court

PETALING JAYA: Arrest warrants for two Immigration Department officers have been issued after they failed to present themselves at court, Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) says.

Sources said that warrants were issued after their lawyer told the courts that both were ill.

“Earlier, Saleh Tukimin, the lawyer representing both accused, informed the court that both were on medical leave, with one suffering from a slipped disc and the other from a thyroid condition,” the source said.

Following the warrants, it is learnt that the courts have set the prosecution of both accused to be carried out before Feb 25.

This is not the first time both have failed to appear in court. Both were scheduled to be charged on Jan 21 but failed to appear as well.

Both accused were supposed to be charged for an alleged act of corruption on Sept 22, 2024, at the Pasir Gudang Terminal Immigration Department office in Johor. Both were suspected of jointly receiving RM100 as an inducement to refrain from conducting a thorough inspection of the travel documents of an Indonesian national.

Johor MACC director Hairuzam Mohmad Amin, when contacted, confirmed the matter.
