Selangor FC supporter pleads not guilty to insulting police officer

KUALA TERENGGANU: A Selangor FC supporter has been charged in the Magistrate's Court here on Thursday (Feb 5) with using insulting language on a police officer.

Alfadli Awaludin, 44, is accused of making the remark to the policeman at Dataran Jambatan Angkat at around 7pm on Sunday (Feb 1).

He was charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which provides for a fine of up to RM100 or in default one month's imprisonment.

Magistrate Noor Mazrinie Mahmood granted bail of RM1,000 with one surety after the accused pleaded not guilty and scheduled the next mention for March 5.

Separately, eight Selangor FC supporters were fined between RM2,800 and RM3,200 on Thursday after pleading guilty before magistrates Noor Mazrinie Mahmood and Iffah Nabihah Mohd Ishak to charges of possessing flares without a valid licence.

Magistrate Noor Mazrinie imposed a fine of RM3,000 each on Muhammad Hafiz Azim Abdul Halim, 25; Muhammad Haiqal Jemerizan, 22; and Muhammad Amrin Abdul Halim, 27, in default, a five-month imprisonment.

The remaining five, Muhammad Ashraff Azhar Mohd Radzi, 23; Syafiq Waliuddin Mohd Anuar, 25; Hamizan Zafri Ahmad Fauzansah, 25; Noor Akmal Danish Noor Azli, 26; and Muhammad Aliff Aiman Norazman, 23, were fined between RM2,800 and RM3,200. All of them have since paid the fines.

The eight men were accused of possessing the flares at the Kuala Terengganu district police headquarters between 8.45pm and 9.30pm on Sunday.

They were charged under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 (Act 207), which carries a penalty of up to seven years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.

The charges stem from the detention of more than 20 Selangor FC supporters on Sunday ahead of the Super League match between Terengganu FC and Selangor FC in Kuala Nerus, for several offences, including drug possession and obstructing officials.

The charges follow the earlier detention of more than 20 Selangor FC supporters for offences including drug possession and obstruction of public officials.

They were caught creating a disturbance at Jambatan Angkat around 6.30pm on Sunday, ahead of the Terengganu FC versus Selangor FC Super League match in Kuala Nerus. – Bernama
