ALOR GAJAH: Hutan Percha in Machap Jaya has the potential to become a new recreational tourism destination, particularly for those interested in hiking and nature.

Machap Jaya assemblyman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem, who is also state health, human resources and unity committee chairman, said the Bukit Percha Recreational Forest, which has been open to the public for only six months, is an attractive spot that visitors of all ages can explore.

He said there are three routes to reach the hill’s peak: a 0.85km track, a 1.2km track and a 2.8km track, Bernama reported.

“The route to the summit is not too challenging and is quite relaxed, taking only between one and one-and-a-half hours to reach the top.

“Climbers can also enjoy beautiful views of the village and surrounding nature.

“Since Bukit Percha was opened to the public, over 700 visitors have climbed the hill, including children and senior citizens,” he told reporters yesterday.

However, Ngwe noted that basic facilities such as public toilets, gazebos and parking areas still need to be developed to ensure visitor comfort and safety.

He added that these improvements would be implemented in collaboration with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and the Rural and Regional Development Ministry through allocations requested under the Third Rolling Plan of the 13th Malaysia Plan.
