Melaka JPJ investigating video of bus overtaking at double line

MELAKA: The Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) is investigating a viral video showing a stage bus overtaking at a double white line in Klebang here.

Melaka JPJ director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop said a notice under Section 114 of the Road Transport Act 1987 had been sent to the bus service concessionaire over the investigation.

"A concessionaire representative will be required to furnish details of the driver involved at the time of the incident," she said on Saturday (Jan 31).

Siti Zarina said if an offence is established, a compound notice will be issued under Rule 17B(1) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for overtaking at a double line, an offence that carries a maximum compound of RM300.

In a 14-second video, a stage bus is seen overtaking a car on a double-line stretch of road, forcing the car to move to the left to avoid a collision.

In June 2025, the Melaka government called on the concessionaire managing the stage bus service in Melaka, popularly known as the 'Pink Bus', to take greater responsibility and enhance its driver training.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh made the call following fatal accidents involving the stage buses and mounting complaints over reckless driving.
