Woman critically injured as gas tank explodes in Ipoh house

IPOH: A 63-year-old woman has been critically injured after a gas cylinder exploded in her house in Taman Kledang Emas here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said before the incident occurred around 4am on Friday (Jan 30), the victim's daughter, who was on the top floor of the house, detected a strong smell of gas.

He said the daughter then asked her mother and younger sister to evacuate the house as a precaution.

"However, before getting out of the house, the elderly woman tried to shut off the gas cylinder valve and the explosion occurred," he said here on Friday, reported Sinar Harian.

He said the explosion could have been caused by the accumulated gas in the house.

ACP Abang Zainal said the victim suffered burns all over her body and face, adding that the explosion shattered the front glass door of the house and tore off the iron grille.

"The victim is currently being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital's intensive care unit and is in critical condition.

"The victims' two children did not suffer any injuries," he said.
