MMEA rescues four after boat capsizes near Langkawi


ALOR SETAR: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has escued four men after the boat they were on overturned in the waters of Pulau Rebak near Langkawi.

Kedah and Perlis MMEA director First Admiral (M) Romli Mustafa said they received a distress call about the overturned boat at 5.05am on Friday (Jan 30).

"As soon as we received the call, the boat Penggalang 11 was dispatched to the location for a search and rescue operation.

"All four men were found safe at 6.10am hanging on to a float," he said in a statement on Friday.

The four men were taken to the Bukit Malut MMEA jetty and then to Sultanah Maliha Hospital, Langkawi and the operation was completed at 7.30am.

"MMEA would like to advise the public, especially the maritime community and boat operators to always prioritise safety while at sea.

"Ensure you wear life jackets, check weather conditions and ensure your boats are in good shape before operating them," he added. – Bernama
