SEREMBAN: The Seremban City Council has revoked the appointments of four civil society organisations and companies to run the Aidilfitri Bazaar at Dataran Senawang during Ramadan, says mayor Datuk Masri Baharuddin.
He said the appointments were rescinded after they failed to comply with conditions set by the council at a recent meeting.
"The council will now run the bazaar at Dataran Senawang on its own.
"The appointment of the four has been immediately terminated as they had failed to provide a letter of offer or letter of acceptance to the potential traders, which was to include information such as the trader's name, identity card, telephone and plot numbers, the rate charged and payment receipt," he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 29).
Masri said the four, which had also failed to submit a copy each to the council, had failed to carry out their responsibilities and violated the stipulated organising conditions.
Organisers appointed to run the bazaars are mostly non-governmental organisations, including residents' associations, companies, surau committees, Neighbourhood Watch, cooperatives, welfare and charitable organisations, and youth bodies.
"MBS also wants all traders not to make any payment for plot rental or sign any agreement with the four organisers.
"If they have paid deposits, they can ask for refunds, failing which they should report the matter to the police," he said.
Masri said that since the council would now run the bazaar, it would provide information on the rules, stall placement, and payment rates in due course.
He said a fifth organiser has since withdrawn his application to run the bazaar, saying that he was unable to manage it as required by the council.
For inquiries, the public can contact the council's Licensing and Entrepreneur Development Department at 06-7654281/4278/4271/4250.
It was recently reported that some traders were unhappy about being charged exorbitant rates to rent plots at the Dataran Senawang bazaar.
