Sibu council wants all rural transformation projects settled before S'wak polls

SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) wants all proposed Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects in its jurisdiction to be implemented before the Sarawak election.

"I advise the councillors, please make sure that your respective people's representatives implement their proposed RTP projects as soon as possible," SMC chairman Clarence Ting (pic) said at the council full board meeting on Wednesday (Jan 28).

Ting also called on councillors to ensure the smooth execution of the projects.

"If there are any problems in implementation that require discussion, please highlight them to me so that we do not have to wait until the end of the year for implementation," he added.

The previous state election was held on Dec 18, 2021. Following that, the legislative assembly convened its first sitting on Feb 14, 2022.

The next election must be held by April next year.

There has been talk of late, however, that the election may be called this year.

Separately, Ting expressed hope that programmes under Visit Malaysia 2026 would be extended to Sibu.

"We hope Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (who is the federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister) will remember Sibu and include some programmes here,” he said.
