EVERY journey on the road carries an element of uncertainty. Even the most familiar routes can suddenly present unexpected dangers – from falling objects and stray animals to vehicles swerving without warning.
While many road users focus on obvious risks like speeding or running red lights, it is often these unanticipated hazards that cause the most confusion and panic.
In a video circulating on social media, a motorcyclist was seen injured after a burger stall being transported by a lorry fell onto him and a car beside him at an intersection.
Did this really happen?
Verdict:
TRUE
Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Malek Ismail said the 28-year-old motorcyclist suffered minor injuries to his forehead and neck, as well as cuts to his hands and legs, in the incident last Tuesday (Jan 20) at about 3.30pm at Jalan Medan Saujana 3 in Kamunting.
ACP Abdul Malek said the victim received treatment at Taiping Hospital.
"The lorry, driven by a 30-year-old man, was transporting the burger stall from Taiping towards Kamunting.
"He then lost control of the vehicle, causing the stall to fall onto the motorcyclist and a car driven by a 34-year-old woman," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 27).
"The case is being investigated under Rule 92 of the Road Traffic Rules for failure to secure a load, causing it to fall," he said.
ACP Abdul Malek said the lorry driver had also turned into a one-way street during the incident.
"He has been slapped with a summons for it," he added.
