PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia collected an additional RM15.5bil in revenue from funds that would have otherwise been lost to leakages or stolen, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said this was owing to efforts by agencies such as the Customs Department, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, police and the Malaysian Competition Commission, among others.

“It was through this discipline, will and cooperation where we see the results.

“These funds are the Rakyat’s right. Rights that were stolen due to our system which still has its imperfections, where some quarters look for opportunities resulting in leakages and funds lost,” he said in his speech at the 44th World Customs Day celebration here on Monday (Jan 26).

Anwar said all agencies must be up for the challenge when it comes to finding and collecting lost or stolen funds.

“This will save our people and country. I am stressing this because I am confident and truly believe that humans can improve if they are constantly reminded,” he said.

The Prime Minister also urged for continuous team efforts when it comes to national matters.

“We must improve ourselves so we can truly be proud of our abilities,” he said.
