KUALA LUMPUR: A long career in the army is no reason to put any officer above the law.
They too have to face the law when accused of an offence, says a prosecutor.
Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin said the prosecution appreciated the four decades of service by former Army chief Jen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan.
However, his tenure in the army could not excuse him from the legal process.
“It is true that he has served for 40 years in the defence of the nation and we appreciate that.
“But at the moment, he is an accused and must face the law,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Wan Shaharuddin said the case had clear facts and the prosecution will work on proving each charge.
Earlier, Muhammad Hafizuddeain claimed trial in the Sessions Court to four counts of receiving proceeds from illegal activities amounting to RM2.1mil between February 2024 and November last year.
