KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry has pledged its full commitment to heed the royal decree of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia during the opening of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament.
The ministry said it would intensify efforts and take firm measures to ensure national security, public order and racial harmony remain safeguarded.
"This would be pursued through several key focus areas, beginning with combating violent crime and issues related to the three R - religion, race and royalty.
"In line with His Majesty’s call, the ministry will not tolerate any acts that touch on 3R sensitivities and could threaten social stability," it said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 20).
The ministry added that it remains committed to addressing serious crime and violent threats effectively to preserve harmony among Malaysia’s multiracial society.
"We will also strengthen digital security, particularly in addressing emerging threats posed by technologies such as deepfakes.
"We recognise the increasing complexity of modern threats and will take immediate action to curb the misuse of digital technology that could facilitate fraud, misinformation and pose risks to public safety," it said.
On integrity and governance, the ministry said it would intensify large-scale efforts to strengthen integrity and eradicate corruption within the public service.
"All policies and services would continue to be implemented ethically, transparently and with full accountability, in line with legal provisions and the principles of good governance.
"We support institutional and democratic reforms, including strengthening laws related to democratic institutions, political financing and the separation of the roles of the attorney general and public prosecutor to ensure transparent justice," it said.
In addition, the Home Ministry welcomed the call for the swift introduction of laws related to national security and external threats, saying improvements to the legal framework were crucial to safeguarding national sovereignty amid an increasingly challenging geopolitical landscape.
"We urge Malaysians to act as the 'eyes and ears' of the Govt by reporting any form of crime or security threats.
"All initiatives under the 13th Malaysia Plan would be implemented with integrity and trustworthiness to ensure the well-being of the people," it added.
