Foreign driver gets summons for driving against flow of traffic in Langkawi

LANGKAWI: A foreign driver was issued a traffic summons after she was found driving against traffic flow along Jalan Chenang here, allegedly after following directions from the Waze navigation application.

Langkawi OCPD Asst Comm Khairul Azhar Nuruddin said the incident occurred on Sunday (Jan 18) night.

“Initial investigations found that the driver had entered the wrong lane and was travelling against traffic direction," he said in a statement.

ACP Khairul Azhar said the US citizen claimed that the mistake happened after she followed directions from the Waze application.

He said traffic police personnel who were coincidentally nearby the location took immediate action and issued a summons to the driver for failing to comply with traffic directional signage.

ACP Khairul Azhar reminded all road users, especially foreign drivers, to remain vigilant and not rely solely on navigation applications, but to also pay close attention to traffic signs and road markings to ensure safety.

He added that strict enforcement would continue to be carried out to prevent accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow, particularly in tourist areas in the resort island.
