JASIN: A five-day mystery surrounding a parked car at Pantai Siring, Kampung Pulai in Merlimau here ended in relief after the 31-year-old driver from Temerloh, Pahang returned home safely, said Melaka police.
Jasin OCPD Supt Lee Robert said villagers became concerned after a car was left unattended at a fishing spot for several days, sparking fears that the driver might have drowned at sea.
He said the man, who was driving his mother’s car, arrived home safely at about 1am on Monday (Jan 19) by driving the car back to Pahang.
"The man had gone fishing at a fishing pond nearby where the car was parked.
"He returned from the pond around 9pm on Monday (Jan 19) and reached home safely a few hours later," he said on Tuesday (Jan 20).
Supt Lee said that the car was parked temporarily while the man went on his fishing trip, and the issue only arose due to the vigilance and concern of villagers over his safety.
He said following reports from the villagers, officers from the Merlimau police station inspected the vehicle on Sunday (Jan 18) night and found no suspicious elements.
"We were glad that the community alertness played a key role in such an incident as the villagers wanted to ensure the safety of the man in view that Pantai Siring is a coastal village frequented by anglers," he added.
