KLANG: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has dismissed claims that separate camps exist within the party and has denied speaking to Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi regarding the matter.
Loke stressed that there are no internal divisions within DAP as claimed by Ahmad Zahid.
“I strongly denied this. I have never spoken to Ahmad Zahid regarding this issue.
“In DAP, there is no team A, B, or C. There is only one team - team DAP,” said Loke when officiating the Selangor DAP convention in Klang on Sunday (Jan 18).
During the Umno general assembly on Saturday (Jan 17), Ahmad Zahid claimed that he had met with Loke recently, where they allegedly discussed separate factions within DAP.
Ahmad Zahid claimed that the differing statements from DAP were due to the different factions within DAP.
Loke said he had told Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin that there was no need to celebrate former Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s failed house arrest bid.
“We can have different opinions in DAP. We manage these different views. There are no issues.
“But no matter what differences we have, we solve them from within and with each other in meetings. On the outside, DAP must remain disciplined and united,” said Loke.
Loke said Ahmad Zahid is using an old trick of divide and conquer by trying to cause division within DAP.
“DAP will not be caught in this divide-and-rule game. Say whatever you want, but DAP is a united party, and our leaders are strong,” he added.
Recently, Loke told a podcast that Yeo did not need to celebrate Najib’s failed house arrest bid and the controversy was unnecessary and could have been handled better.
Loke said DAP’s stance on Najib was clear, and he was not reprimanding Yeo, but urging restraint.
On a separate matter, Loke also denied allegations that DAP had meddled in Tabung Haji affairs, saying that even though former secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was the former finance minister, he had never interfered in the matter.
“Blame Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad at that time. It wasn’t DAP that made a decision.
Loke said Tabung Haji was led by Tan Sri Mohammed Nor Md Yusof in 2019, and DAP leaders have never sat on the board.
