Teen in Bandar Utama school stabbing mentally ‘fit to stand trial’

PETALING JAYA: The 15-year-old boy accused of murdering a schoolmate at a school in Bandar Utama has been declared fit to stand trial, based on a psychiatric report.

His lawyer Kitson Foong told the press that he conveyed this to the Magistrate’s Court during closed-door proceedings, which subsequently made the ruling yesterday.

“The accused is able to stand trial and enter his defence.

“The psychiatric report also instructed for the accused to be placed at a (correctional) centre in Puncak Alam described as a ‘prison for children’,” he said.

According to Foong, the court ordered the boy to attend counselling and therapy on a monthly basis.

Magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal fixed Feb 6 for mention.

On Oct 22, 2025, the accused was charged at the Magistrate’s Court with murdering a 16-year-old female schoolmate in Bandar Utama.

According to the charge sheet, the teenager committed the crime in the girl’s toilet in the school between 9.20am and 9.35am on Oct 14 last year.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries a death sentence or imprisonment between 30 to 40 years and 12 strokes of the rotan, if convicted.

The boy was ordered by the court to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak.
