KUALA LUMPUR: Umno will now open its doors wide to former leaders who were "born and raised under its roof," says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In his policy speech at the general assembly here on Friday (Jan 16), the Umno president said it was from this "house" (the party) that Independence was achieved, the Constitution was crafted, Islam was elevated as a pillar of the nation, and the Malay Rulers were upheld.

"For this reason, the doors of this house are always wide open.

"We were born and we were raised here.

"It is here as well that we forged the meaning of struggle.

"In welcoming the return of our brothers and sisters, our siblings, our family members, a special committee will be established to receive the entry or re-entry of any party, whether individually or collectively (en bloc), into this house again," he said at the World Trade Centre.
