KUALA LUMPUR: Umno must not allow itself to be distracted or influenced by disruptive voices and work on making known its achievements for the rakyat, religion and country, says Datuk Dr Asryaf Wajdi Dusuki.

The Umno secretary-general emphasised closing ranks to ensure party unity remains intact.

"We must not dance to the tune of others. Let them beat their own drums.

"Umno’s tune, however, is far more meaningful. Let the people know what we have done and ensure our beat is to the tune of ensuring the best for our religion, race and country," he said in his speech at the Umno annual general assembly here on Friday (Jan 16).

He also said the role of Umno federal ministers and state government leaders was living proof of how the party upheld its principles.

According to Asyraf Wajdi, this includes Umno’s role in deferring the Urban Renewal Bill, spurring domestic investments, and protecting the country’s sovereignty on the global stage.

The assembly, he said, is not for the party to play up sentiments or point the finger at anyone.

"We cannot control anyone but ourselves. Only we can protect, chart a course, and lead our own party.

"Now is the time to decide whether we want to let these outside voices creep in, or defend the unity we have built in our home," he said.
